Changes impacting free members will drive content, and premium members, away

Free members who want to look at my photo archive (or anyone’s photo archive) can no longer do so. They’re getting a message saying “Unlock all profile content and more! Unlock all profile gallery photos and all videos by upgrading to premium membership”. In effect, all of the photo content I’ve ever posted here (1,243 images) has now been put behind the “premium” paywall.

This took effect, apparently, this morning, November 22.

Those free members who enjoy my content will no longer be able to do so. Why the fuck should I share it then? Why should I bother providing this site with free content that only a tiny handful will be able to see?

I’ve contributed a lot of content to this site, both when I was a free member and since I’ve joined premium. Now, the material I contributed is being withheld. This might be seen as an incentive (albeit a punitive one) for free members to join premium. What seems to have been overlooked is that it’s also a powerful disincentive for me to contribute any content at all. Why should I spend my time trying to create decent (hopefully interesting, hopefully exciting) photos and videos that I hope people will enjoy, when only the tiny subset of members who are premium will be able to see them?

This site is taking its content providers for granted.

This is a fundamental, significant change, one that makes the premium membership I paid for less valuable and less attractive. Unless this decision is reversed, I expect to leave, and I’d encourage other premium members to do likewise.

I don’t pretend that I’m in any way a significant contributor here. But I know there is a small (but dedicated) group of members, some premium, most free, who seem to enjoy what I post. I’ll continue to make pictures and videos. I just won’t be sharing them here.

Thanks for starting this thread Babette... This is the first time I've heard of this happening, so I need to do some research before I can talk about this subject at length..

Just sit tight ladies and lets figure out what's happened, and further more, WHY it happened please!

This very well could be our only option to keep this site alive, and if this is what it takes, then I say so be it..

A Premium only site is better than no site at all, and I have NO interest in any other sites, so I'm kinda stuck here..

So no knee jerk reactions allowed slut... I order you wink

I see nothing to support this so far Babette..

I can see your pics just fine while using Britney's Non-Premium account, so you need to double check with others before you go doing something silly.. Like leaving god forbid!!

Another thing I looked into was the photo comment stream and I see lots of comments made by freebies Hun... Have a look at that maybe?

I'll talk to a few more people though and make damn sure you're off your rocker...

What whom ever it was that told you this must have seen the current advertisement for 25% off..

All you have to do is CLOSE the advertisement (X) and go along your way..

I've closed the "25% off" ad and the entire gallery page of Babette's thumbnails is blurred out, and the thumbs don't actually work.

I'll investigate further this evening, but right now I would say it looks as if the most serious fuck-up in the entire history of Site Admin has just happened.

We have implemented a change where by if a free user want's to view a specific member's gallery they need to be premium.

This however does not prevent them from looking at all the photos in the normal way on the photos page, for example by category, posted today etc.

We had to make this change, pure and simply because our premium sales are not covering our costs. (not even close to it!)

This whole site makes no profit, and we keep it running because we want to, we love providing this service to you. But we need it to at least cover its costs as we can't keep it running forever at a loss.

I am not joking when I say that presently the site turns over less than someone flipping burgers at a burger joint.

if you have other ideas that might help us drive premium member sales, we are always listening, as we demonstrated recently by not proceeding with our intended price increases.

Please also don't be hostile and imply to others they should leave! This doesn't help anyone, quite the contrary it is most unhelpful.

If this is what it takes to keep this site afloat, I fully support the changes...

You really have NO IDEA how close we've come to completely losing this site for good...

So yeah, no knee-jerk reactions please...

You can't leave a site that doesn't exist, so just chill a while and see what the future brings?

This is a business folks... Not a charity... Please keep that in mind.

The change hasn't been implemented very well, as I logged in and tried a search for 'Babette' on the photos page, and the content was blurred out, as we know.

But then I clicked on 'posted today (203 photos)' and THEY were all blurred out as well. That gave me the impression that freebie members can no longer 'try before they buy'. But then a further viewing attempt (yesterday's photos) worked ok.

I take Brenda's point in the previous post, and yes, let's not be negative... but I still don't see why freebie members can't have an ever-diminishing range of options, to let them experience the FULL site (yes, videos and cam too) ...but if they decline to then buy Premium, then they gradually find the quota of freebies dries up.

I'm going to take advantage of my Moderator privileges and start up a second, FREE account myself..

Anyway, for now, I URGE people to remember that we nearly suffered a 300% price increase not long ago...
I can clearly see that the Boss is trying to come up with something that works for everybody, but we most deffo can't expect the poor guy to LOSE MONEY on our behalf... Which he already is..

Busy weekend here ladies, with the holiday and all... I'd like everyone to enjoy it and not freak out about this until we know damned well where the chips land..

i completely agree wiht Nrenda! sometimes when changes are made, there are glitches that show up unexpectedly & that neeed to be worked around to get things squared away. So PLEASE remember that this is a business that, as the boss said, needs to at least break even. We can't expect him to keep operating at a loss here - and i'm sure that it WE were the ones losing money on this wonderful site, that we'd also be trying however we could to at least break even.

So let's cut him some slack here while he tries to work things out for the best & to maintain things for us gurls & their admirers. i surely don't want to have our gurly site close down...i have made so many friends & there are so many good things about this site that are just SO MUCH BETTER than any other group i have found that i will do whatever i can to make sure it doesn't fail. So as Brenda said, let's just chill out for a while & see how things shake out.

Today, I can see Babette's gallery just fine. It seems the blurring "sanction" is affecting some freebie members and not others. Very strange.

The equivalent thread to this one, over on the NN site, makes interesting reading. Well, Mr.NN's bits are interesting but some of the other contributions strike me as inane drivel. The quality of debate isn't what it was back when Masterstoy was regularly involved!

Notably Mr.NN says there are variable restrictions: some members can not view pics from profile pages directly. One wonders how the selection is made. But that would explain why different people are reporting different experiences when going to Babette's gallery.

And one contributor says the change is a limitation, not a restriction. Personally, I fail to see much difference between the two.

But it makes generally interesting reading, and the link is HERE.

There are SO many sites where you can host and view pics for free, chat, message etc, that imposing more and more restrictions here is going to kill NTN totally.

For goodness, just bite the bullet and go for advertising!

Plenty of screen real-estate and it can be done in a very unobtrusive manner, while remaining effective. By the way, three-quarter screen pop-over divs drive people away. Advertising, whether third party or by NTN itself needs to be done properly.

I have loved this site since I found it and have felt very secure in being open about myself here. I would very much like to become premium and tried to do so the other night. My problem is on the financial side. I have always used store bought pre-paid credit cards - like visa gift cards - to do my online private adult shopping and when I tried to use it to join the other night it was denied because the site is outside of the US. For those of us who don't want to be financially tracked by anyone is there possibly a US server that we could be pointed to to sign up? I know, I know - just suck it up honey and find some other way to pay for it - but that old dog new tricks thing sometimes is hard to break out of unsure Anyway, just curious...

Interestingly, I have no paywall problems/issues/restrictions in looking at Babettes pictures either...

Minidress raises valid points, as always... but the thing about Internet funding is that the big sites like youporn and others hoover up or draw in most of the advertising revenue, and what's left is a few smaller players fighting over the meagre scraps that are left.

The NTN site code is basically good, and it's a sound little community on NN mainly - and NTN, NDN and NGN in rapidly decreasingly degrees - but unfortunately these days that's not quite enough to keep afloat. It takes input from people like me, who have paid for Premium year after year after year... and by the way I see I'm on my last 250 days now, and am not sure if I will be be able to renew, next time around.
