babette's blog post - Just about done with the spammers

I've called attention to the ongoing issues with the abuse of this site. Nothing's being done. I'm expecting to reduce my involvement here gradually unless it becomes clear that something has changed.

I'm not writing this hoping to get people to say "please don't leave". I would prefer to stay. I would prefer to keep contributing. But the site is broken and no one is doing anything about it.

Many of the most prolific contributors are premium members. That means we pay for the right to give the site our content, without any compensation to us. I've been OK with that up to now. But with predators attacking the site and nothing being done about it, I have to assume the site ownership is fine with their members' content being spammed.

I listed the spam accounts in my forum post, but as I have pointed out in the status line discussion, deleting those accounts doesn't solve anything. The site must find a way to prevent the spammers from creating new accounts (which they are doing at least daily if not multiple times a day), or, failing that, prevent them from being able to post comments to photos.

This is not aimed at the moderators - I understand this is out of their control.
